How Does Window Air Conditioning Work?

This type Conditioner is generally installed within an open Window in the Home or Office. The Room is cooled and dehumidified (moisture removed) by means of an internal fan (front facing) located within the Window Conditioner itself. The fan intakes warm air from the room and passes it through the Evaporator Coil (cooling core). Another fan located within the Conditioner generally located near the rear of the Conditioner and exposed to the outside environment, is used to cool the Condenser Core that contains high pressure Freon Gas. The Freon Gas has been heated in two (2) ways, first by the compressor friction and second by the removal of warm airflow from within the Room. The cooling process actually converts the Freon Gas back to a cooled liquid which is then fed back to Evaporator. As this liquid freon passes through the Evaporator it cools the coils between 38 - 50 degrees fahrenheit and converts the liquid back to a gas which is fed to the suction side of the compressor, to once again be compressed into a high pressure Freon Gas. The low pressure liquid Freon passing through the Evaporator is what produces the cooling of the Evaporator Coil and removes the moisture from the airflow passing through the core. The size of the Compressor, Evaporator Core, Condenser Core, Fan Size, and amount of Gas are the determining factors as to the BTU rating of a particular Conditioner.
